This escape art painting is what artist Tom Thordarson calls “characterized romantic”. A tiki hut rests on a beach lit dimly by the reflection of a rising moon and the spark of a fire from tiki lanterns on the shoreline.
"It’s not quite cartoony, yet pushes the proportions and color of reality a bit. As I painted it, I was imagining some romantic, enchanted couple hiding away on a magical, moonlit night. They are perhaps inside the tree house, strolling on the beach or swimming in the silvery water.
You can see the marriage here of masculine and feminine forms and elements: fire and water, darkness and light and even the shapes of the bottle torches or drink glasses on the lanai. The tiny glowing votives on the steps welcome all to enter this magical place."--Thor -
