  In the fathomless depths of the sea, where sunlight has surrendered and the boundaries between reality and imagination begin to dissolve, darkness becomes a stage for our imagination and an arena where ambiguous forms emerge from the murky void, daring to be discovered. 

  "Denizens of the Deep" is a painting that calls the viewer into this alien and xenophobic world, where the black velvet fabric becomes the perfect medium for capturing the inky darkness, mystery, and haunting essence of the briny depths. Within that darkness, the imagination begins to see what the eye cannot.

   Clad in brass, canvas, and lead, the deep-sea diver descends into this silent world, sealed within the fragile armor that separates him from an environment that can crush him at a whim.  His entire universe is reduced to what he can see through the small glass faceplate before him. And then, in that narrow circle of vision, something moves. 

   We witness the diver's moment of realization as the sway of his lifeline mimics a dark and sinister dance with the sinuous movement of its unseen partner.

   Is it the call of some siren of the abyss, drawing him deeper into its dance from which there may be no return?  The darkness conceals its intentions, revealing only enough to lure the imagination toward the unimaginable. For once in the embrace of such an entity...life fades to black...for the sea never returns to the surface, that which it has claimed its prize.
