   In a hidden corner of a lush island valley rests a tiny pond, its waters still and ancient beneath the watchful gaze of moonlit palms. It was here, long ago, that a young village girl spent her happiest days, splashing through the cool shallows beside the boy she loved. Together they laughed, gathered flowers, and dreamed beneath the emerald canopy, unaware that time would one day carry them in different directions. When the boy’s family departed for the distant mainland, she stood at the water’s edge and promised she would wait for his return, no matter how many seasons passed.

   As the years drifted by, the pond became her sanctuary of remembrance. Upon strips of tapa paper, she carefully wrote her hopes, her dreams, and the unspoken words she wished could reach the one she had lost. One by one, she placed these messages into a small ceremonial bowl and set them aflame upon the water. As the glowing embers floated across the pond’s dark surface, she prayed that the Island Gods would hear her offering and guide her beloved safely home. Each flickering light carried a piece of her heart into the night.

   Now a young woman, she returns once more beneath a sky awash in midnight azure. The pond reflects the silver moon as she kneels at its edge, presenting her final offering of love aflame. The tiny vessel drifts slowly across the water, its golden glow fading into the darkness like a cherished memory. Yet within her heart remains an unwavering faith—that somewhere beyond the horizon, the boy who once shared these enchanted waters remembers as she does, and that one day the gods will answer her devotion by bringing him home at last.
